GERALD J. FORD STADIUM

Gerald Ford Stadium, home of the SMU Mustangs

Dallas, TX

Gerald J. Ford Stadium was constructed after the 1998 season to replace the aging 23,000 seat Ownby Stadium, which had been the home of the Mustangs since 1923. The new $42 million stadium was financed largely through a donation from Dallas billionaire Gerald J. Ford, after whom the stadium was named.

The Mustangs played their first game at the new stadium on September 2, 2000, against Kansas. Gerald J. Ford Stadium has a seating capacity of 33,200 in a single tier horseshoe configuration. The playing field is located 25 feet below street level, allowing fans easier access to the seats while also keeping the stadium from appearing imposing among the surrounding buildings.

Gerald J. Ford Stadium features several amenities, including 600 club seats and 24 luxury suites. The stadium was designed with future expansion in mind and can be expanded to accommodate up to 45,000 fans.
