What’s more fun on a Saturday afternoon in the fall than sitting back, watching football and splitting a pizza with your friends?  Not much.  If you agree, then Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium is for you.  The University of Louisville Cardinals play their home games in front of perhaps the most comfortable fans in the nation.  All of  Cardinal Stadium’s 42,000 seats are of the chairback variety.  No other on campus stadium can make this claim.  Cardinal Stadium also features some of the most modern press boxes in college football.

Louisville’s home stadium has the ability to expand to 80,000 seats as well as featuring a state of the art training facility.  One of the most impressive features at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium is the ability to treat injuries.  The University of Louisville’s partnership with Jewish Hospital and the Frazier Rehab Center provide visitors the highest level of care possible with a full trauma center and three fully staffed first aid stations.  Outstanding features such as this make Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium one of the very finest in the nation. It is also the only college football stadium that has sold the naming rights. In November 2006 the Louisville Athletic Association Board of Directors approved a $65 million expansion that will increase the capacity of Cardinal Stadium to 63,600. This expansion, to be completed by the 2009 season, will include 2,500 luxury seats and 45 luxury suites on the east side. The current grandstand will be extended to the ends of the Howard Schnellenberger Football Complex and an upper deck will be added to the east grandstand. In order to pay for this expansion, the school will raise $30 million in private donations and issue bonds of $35 million.
