The stadium consists of a lower deck that encloses
the entire playing field, and upper decks on the east and west sides. Throughout the past 25 years, there have been few
additions to Mountaineer Field. A new video/scoreboard was added in
the north end of the stadium before the 1995 season. The original
Astroturf playing surface was replaced with Astroplay in 2002.
Eighteen suites were added in 2004 in the north endzone providing more
money for the athletics department. Before the 2007 season the
Astroplay was replaced with Fieldturf. Over the past several years, the
Mountaineers have maintained a quality team that has been very
competitive. Fans continue to come out to support the team and hear
John Denver’s song “Take Me Home Country Roads” which has become
famous at Mountaineer games.
