Home of the University of
Connecticut Huskies, Rentschler Field is one of the newest college
football stadiums in Division-1 football. Prior to moving into
Rentschler Field, the Huskies played at the 16,000 seat Memorial
Stadium. Named after Fredrick Rentschler,
construction began on their new stadium in November 2001. At a cost of $91.2 million,
Rentschler Field was completed three years later. The Huskies played
their inaugural first game at the stadium on August 30, 2003 against
Indiana.
Rentschler Field seats a modest number of 40,000 fans. The
main lower grandstand circles the entire playing field and a second
deck is located on three sides of the field. On the open end of the
upper deck is the main scoreboard. Located on the south side of the
stadium atop the second deck is the three tier press box. Other than
containing an area for the press, it also houses club seats and 38
luxury suites. The UConn Huskies hope to build a successful football
program and contend for the Big East title.
