Beginning in 1993, the Cougars
moved back to Robertson Stadium and playing half their games the Astrodome and Robertson Stadium. Over the years the
stadium has experienced several additions. The stadium was renamed Jeppesen
Stadium in 1958, and in 1970 the University of Houston bought the
stadium and renamed in Robertson Stadium after University of Houston
Board of Regents member and athletics committee chairman Corbin
Robertson. In 1983, the stadium received a $2 million facelift and
before the 1996 season a new scoreboard was added. A $6 million expansion of
the stadium occurred before the 1999 season when 20 luxury suites were
added and a new pressbox was built. Also, the track was removed,
the playing field was lowered and additional seats were added. Today
the stadium seats 32,000 fans. Future plans include the building of a
possible upper deck to increase the stadium to 50,000. |
