Located in Kent, OH, Dix
Stadium has been the home of the Golden Flashes for almost four
decades. By the mid 1960s, a new stadium was needed for the football
program. In 1969, construction began and was completed by the fall of
that year, giving the Golden Flashes a new stadium. It was named
in honor of Robert Dix, a member of the Kent State's Board of
Trustees. The Golden Flashes played their first game at Dix Stadium on
September 13, 1969 against Dayton.

Over the years, the
capacity at Dix Stadium has remained unchanged at nearly 30,000.
Within the past ten years, there have been several additions to the
stadium. Lights were added in 1996, the grass field was replaced by
Astroturf, and a new video/scoreboard has been added. The stadium
consists of four separate single tier grandstands on each side of the
field. Over the past couple of years Dix Stadium has 7underwent
several changes. Before the 2007 season, the pressbox was renovated
and the north endzone seating was repainted. Prior to the 2008 season,
the south endzone was demolished and replaced with a terrace with new
concessions and a new scoreboard. A brick and wrought iron fence was
also constructed around the stadium. A new 36ft. by 20ft. high
definition video/scoreboard was also added before the 2008 season. |
