A new chapter in the history of the
Akron Zips football program began in 2009 with their move into
Infocision Stadium. This facility is the third stadium the Zips have
called their home. They first played at Buchtel Field, then moved into
the Rubber Bowl in 1940. The Rubber Bowl was a 31,000 seat stadium
that began to show its age. In August 2007, the university announced
plans to construct a new stadium for the Zips.
On September 12, 2009, the
Zips played their first game at Infocision Stadium against Morgan
State. The stadium has a seating capacity of 25,000 with standing room
for 5,000. It features 17 luxury suites and over 500 club seats.
Infocision Stadium also features a 22ft by 40ft video/scoreboard.
Ribbon boards also keep fans up to date on any relevant information to
the Zips. Fans can buy Zips merchandise at two different team stores,
located at both ends of the stadium. The Zips hope that the move to
Infocision Stadium will lead
