Scheumann Stadium, home of the Ball
State Cardinals is one of the smallest stadiums in the Mid-American Conference.
Located in Munice, Indiana, a new stadium for the Cardinals was
constructed for the start of 1967 season. The Ball State Cardinals
made their debut at the stadium on September 16, 1967.
Since its opening in 1967,
the stadium has changed very little. Artificial turf replaced the
grass playing field before the 1997 season, although it has since been
replaced with Fieldturf. The stadium consists of three sets of one
tier grandstands, one on each side of the gridiron and one set below
the endzone.
In
2005, Ball State Stadium was renamed Scheumann Stadium after John and
June Scheumann donated $4 million to the $13 million stadium campaign
to enlarge and improve the facility. Recent improvements included a
larger pressbox, luxury suites, new ticket offices, façade work and
constructing seating on the north end to increase the seating capacity
to just over 25,000. Work began after the 2006 season and was
completed by the Cardinals home opener in 2007.
