Huskie Stadium
De Kalb, IL

Like nearly every other stadium in the MAC conference, Huskie Stadium has the same basic seating capacity and layout. A new stadium for the Northern Illinois football program was needed to replace the 5,500 seat Glidden Field. Construction on a new stadium for the Huskies began in January 1964 and was completed the following year. The facility was completed later that fall and the Huskies made their debut at the stadium on November 6, 1965 against rival Illinois State.

The stadium had a seating capacity of 20,000 mostly made up of the main grandstand on the west side of the field. It originally had a natural grass playing surface but that changed in 1969 when Astroturf was installed. Since its opening in 1965, the stadium has had several names and nicknames, but that changed in 1974 when the university officially gave the facility the name, Huskie Stadium. The first addition to the stadium came before the 1992 season when the seating capacity was increased to 30,000. Prior to the 1995 season additional seating was added on the east side of Huskie Stadium. In recent years, Fieldturf replaced the Astroturf, a new video/scoreboard has been installed, and the north endzone berm was constructed allowing fans to watch the game on this grassy area.
