Rynearson
Stadium
Ypsilanti, MI
Every fall fans come out to
Rynearson Stadium, the home of the Eastern Michigan Eagles to watch
the team battle their MAC foes. The stadium was built and constructed
in time for the 1969 football season. The Eagles made their debut at
the stadium on September 27, 1969 against Akron. The stadium was named
after Elton Rynearson who coached 26 season at Eastern Michigan.

When
it opened the stadium had roughly 15,500 seats and was built at a cost
of $1.4
million. Five years after its opening the seating capacity was
increased to 22,227 and lighting was added for night games. The latest
improvements and expansions came in the 1990s. Before the 1991
season, a type of Astroturf known as StadiaTurf was installed at
Rynearson Stadium, but was replaced with Fieldturf in 2005. The following year, the seating capacity was
increased to its current capacity of 30,200 with the addition of seats
on the east side. A new scoreboard and the pressbox was expanded
during this time. Fans still come out to Rynearson Stadium to see
quality football being played. |
