Allegacy Stadium, home of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, is one of the smallest football stadiums in the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. The idea for a new football stadium was first conceived in the late 1940s after the university moved to Winston Salem. By the mid 1960s, that dream became a reality when Wake Forest decided it was time to build a new stadium for its football program. Until its completion, the Demon Deacons played at Bowman Gray Stadium. Constructed at a cost of approximately $4 million, the new stadium was completed in time for the 1968 football season. It was originally named Groves Stadium after football supporters Henry and Earl Groves. In 2007, the facility was renamed BB&T Field after BB&T purchased the naming rights. It was renamed Truist Field before the 2020 season following the merger between BB&T and SunTrust. In June 2023, the stadium was renamed Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium.
The Demon Deacons played their inaugural game at Allegacy Stadium on September 14, 1968, when they hosted NC State. Located off campus, the stadium has a seating capacity of 31,500. Two single tier grandstands are located on either side of the field, while fans can also relax in the sun on a grassy knoll at the south end of the stadium, where the scoreboard is located. The press box and several luxury seating areas are located atop the west grandstand.
Over the past several decades, the stadium has changed very little. In 2006, the natural grass playing field was replaced with FieldTurf. Nearly $1.5 million was spent constructing the Bridge Fieldhouse on the north end of the facility. The stadium facade and surrounding areas were also refaced with brick, giving the facility an appearance similar to the buildings on the Wake Forest campus.
The latest major addition was the Deacon Tower, which was completed in 2008. Located on the west side of the stadium, the seven story tower houses a new press box, luxury suites and club seats. Despite its relatively small size, Allegacy Stadium provides an intimate atmosphere that has become a defining characteristic of Wake Forest football.
